Valencia Overall
Valencia: Overall lustrewares
Produced during the 17th and 18th centuries.
After the expulsion of the Moriscos in 1610, when converted Muslims living in Spain were deported, pottery traditions were not entirely extinguished in Valencia, as seems to have happened in some other areas. Nevertheless, the changes in the pottery produced at the time are very notable.
This phase is characterised by the use of simpler motifs than in previous phases, the use of thicker lines, and repetitive compositions around birds, carnation flowers and ‘kidney’-shaped or striped flowers.
The main forms produced are large plates, bowls, serving dishes, jars and jugs.
